Uncertainty Surrounds Bala Mohammed's Political Future

Bala Mohammed, the Governor of Bauchi State, is currently grappling with uncertainty regarding a possible defection from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) as he navigates internal crises within the party. His remarks during a meeting on March 31, 2026, with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal, acknowledged the PDP's failure in reconciliation efforts.

Following this, discussions with key figures from the ADC and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have intensified speculation about his next political move. On April 18, reports indicated that plans to join the APC were shelved due to disagreements over a proposed 60-40 power-sharing formula.

Idri Abdul Aziz described the situation as complex and lacking clarity, while Yusuf Makama urged calm among party members, expressing confidence in Mohammed's leadership. Meanwhile, Tanimu Turaki, leading a PDP faction in Bauchi State, called for unity among members as they prepare for the upcoming primaries, with a deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission for May 30.
