UNHCR and TGI Group Launch Job Creation Initiative

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and TGI Group have initiated a three-year partnership aimed at creating 10,000 jobs for displaced Nigerians, particularly targeting 5,000 farmers in Benue and Cross River States. This collaboration will be implemented through TGI's agricultural arm, WACOT Limited, which has been operational in Nigeria's agricultural value chain for 25 years.

The program is expected to benefit an estimated 25,000 to 35,000 individuals, including refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and host communities. Farmers in these fragile communities will receive improved agricultural inputs, technical training, certification, and structured market access across various value chains, including rice, maize, sesame, soya, and cocoa.

This initiative aligns with UNHCR's recent global trend report, which indicates that 117.8 million people remain forcibly displaced worldwide, with Nigeria hosting 3.8 million of them. The partnership reflects a shift towards market-driven solutions to reduce dependency and promote economic inclusion.
