FG to Create 7,000 Jobs Through Ranching Estates

The Federal Government of Nigeria aims to create 7,000 direct jobs through a ranching estates program designed to empower youth and women while boosting livestock production. The initiative was disclosed in a statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development on Friday.

The program proposes an estate-based livestock management model that provides structured opportunities for young people and women to participate in ranch operations and livestock-related enterprises. Idi Maiha, the Minister of Livestock Development, explained that this initiative is part of a broader strategy to unlock the economic potential of Nigeria's livestock industry, particularly in dairy products, red meat, leather, and value chains.

The minister emphasized the need for innovative financing mechanisms tailored to the realities of livestock production. Additionally, the ministry is pursuing the establishment of modern abattoirs in selected states and the Federal Capital Territory to improve livestock infrastructure, enhance meat quality and safety standards, and reduce waste.
