UNIABUJA Visitation Panel Uncovers Over N370M in Inflated Expenditures

The Visitation Panel at the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) discovered inflated expenditures totaling over N370 million on Governing Council sitting allowances. The panel, established to investigate activities within the institution during the tenure of Alhaji Sani Maikudi, the former Pro-Chancellor and father of the current Vice-Chancellor, found irregularities in financial management.

The 342-page report covered the university's activities from 2016 to 2020, highlighting excessive spending on council expenses, including transportation, subsistence allowances, and sitting allowances. The panel, chaired by Alhaji Bukar Goni Aji, with members like Prof.

Ahm Ali Yakasai and Dr. Ibiang Oden Ewa, was inaugurated in April 2021 by former Minister of Education Mallam Adamu Adamu on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The report also noted deficits in the university's financial management, with the highest deficit of N2.7 billion incurred in 2016. The panel is expected to conclude its assignment and submit the report within 60 days of inauguration.
