Unilag Collaborates with Lagos State to Boost Rice Production and Food Security

The University of Lagos (Unilag) is partnering with the Lagos State Government to improve rice production by leveraging scientific innovations. Ganiyu Oyetibo, the Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences at Unilag, highlighted the need for support in land acquisition to enhance the university's agricultural department.

Oluwarotimi Fashola, a special adviser to the Lagos State Governor on agriculture, emphasized the importance of botany in food production and the resilience of Nigeria's food system. The collaboration aims to increase the quality and quantity of Eko rice to strengthen food security in Lagos State and address the significant rice consumption levels in Nigeria.
