Nigerian University Lecturers Secure 40% Pay Rise in New Agreement

Nigerian university lecturers, represented by ASUU, have successfully negotiated a new pact with the Federal Government, resulting in a 40% salary increase for academic staff starting from January 1, 2026. The agreement also includes improved pension benefits, with professors set to earn a pension equivalent to their annual salary upon retirement at the age of 70.

ASUU emphasized the importance of enhancing the welfare of lecturers and stabilizing the higher education system in Nigeria through this agreement.
