16 Officers to Face Military Trial for Alleged Coup Plot in Nigeria

The Defence Headquarters in Nigeria has announced that 16 military officers will face a military trial for their alleged roles in a coup plot. The Director of Defence Information, Maj Gen Samaila Uba, disclosed in a statement that the officers were arrested for acts of indiscipline and breaching service regulations.

The investigation, which began in October 2025, has been completed, and the officers will face a military judicial panel. The Defence Headquarters stressed that the actions taken are purely disciplinary and aimed at maintaining discipline, operational effectiveness, and loyalty within the military.

The Defence spokesman assured the public that due process and fairness will be strictly observed throughout the trial process.
