Rivers Assembly Resumes After Emergency Rule, Seeks New Commissioners and Budget

The Rivers State House of Assembly resumed plenary after a six-month suspension due to a state of emergency imposed by President Bola Tinubu. The emergency rule, which was lifted, had suspended the Assembly, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and his deputy Ngozi Odu.

Lawmakers, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, reconvened and demanded a review of funds spent during the emergency period, including projects and programs. They insisted on receiving a list of new commissioners and the budget from Governor Fubara to reflect the aspirations of the Rivers people.

The Assembly emphasized the need to work with the governor on a fresh financial plan. This development marks a return to democratic governance in Rivers State after a period of political and security tension.
