Supreme Court Dismisses PDP Governors' Suit Against Rivers Emergency Rule

The Supreme Court of Nigeria struck out a suit filed by 10 PDP-led states challenging the propriety of the state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu in Rivers State. The court upheld the President's power to declare a state of emergency to prevent breakdown of law and order.

Justices Moham Idri and Oband Ogbuinya had differing opinions on the case. The suit was filed by the Attorneys General of several states including Adamawa, Enugu, Osun, and others.

The case raised questions on the President's authority to suspend democratic governance during a state of emergency.
