Supreme Court Dismisses PDP States' Lawsuit Against Rivers Emergency Rule

The Supreme Court of Nigeria on Monday dismissed a lawsuit filed by 11 states controlled by the People Democratic Party (PDP) against the emergency rule imposed in Rivers State. The court ruled that it lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter, as the plaintiffs failed to establish a cause of action invoking the court's original jurisdiction.

The lead judgment by Justice Moham Idri upheld the preliminary objection raised by the Attorney General of the Federation and the National Assembly. However, Justice Oband Ogbuinya dissented, stating that the plaintiff's case partially succeeded.
