US Revokes 175,000 Visas Over Crime and Security Issues

The US Department of State announced the revocation of more than 175,000 visas issued to foreign nationals during President Donald Trump's administration, citing reasons such as criminal offenses, breaches of visa conditions, and national security concerns. The cancellations primarily resulted from law enforcement encounters involving criminal activities, including assault, driving under the influence, theft, and drug-related offenses.

Other serious crimes leading to visa revocation included felony rape, sexual battery, kidnapping, human trafficking, and domestic violence. Additionally, the department reported that over 100 visas were canceled for parents involved in "birth tourism." Some cases involved foreign nationals charged with significant financial crimes, such as Medicaid fraud exceeding $5 million.

The State Department indicated that the visa revocation process would continue as officials identify foreign nationals posing threats to public safety. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has determined that certain foreign nationals are deportable on foreign-policy grounds.
