U.S. Eases Travel Rules for Iran Ahead of World Cup Match

The U.S. government has granted special dispensation for the Iranian national football team to enter the United States two days prior to their vital 2026 World Cup group stage match against Egypt. This decision comes as the team prepares for their Group G fixture scheduled for Friday.

Previously, travel restrictions limited entry to 24 hours before matches, but the U.S. has relaxed these regulations to facilitate the team's travel. The Iranian team will arrive in the U.S. on Wednesday and will depart immediately after the match.

They are based in Arizona for the tournament and will move to Tijuana, Mexico, for their final match on the 19th. The U.S. government has ensured that the team obtains the necessary travel documents, as there are no direct flights from Tijuana to Seattle, which necessitated the easing of travel restrictions to minimize travel time to the stadium, located approximately 2,300 km away.
