US Embassy Reminds Nigerians of Visa Restrictions Effective January 2026

The US Embassy in Nigeria has reiterated the implementation of visa restrictions affecting 19 countries, including Nigeria, effective January 1, 2026. The restrictions, in line with Presidential directives, limit entry for certain visa categories such as visitor visas, student visas, and immigrant visas.

Despite the restrictions, exemptions exist for specific cases like ethnic or religious minorities facing persecution and participants in major international sports events. The Embassy urges prospective applicants to note the exemptions as the restrictions will take full effect in January 2026.
