Elon Musk's Grok AI Used in Military Strikes Against Iran

The US government revealed that Elon Musk's Grok AI, developed by his company XAI, was utilized in military strikes against Iran. This disclosure was made during a court case involving XAI's large-scale data center operations, which the US Department of Justice argued could undermine national interests.

Cameron Stanlei, the Pentagon's chief official overseeing artificial intelligence programs, testified that Grok significantly improved operational performance and decision-making speed during military operations, specifically citing its role in Project Maven. This project reportedly enabled the US military to deploy around 2,000 munitions against approximately 2,000 targets within a 96-hour period.

The legal proceedings also highlighted a lawsuit filed against XAI by the NAACP, alleging that the company operated power turbines without necessary environmental permits, impacting predominantly Black communities. The case sheds light on the increasing role of artificial intelligence in modern military campaigns and the ethical concerns surrounding its use.
