Nigerian Muslims Face Losses from Umrah Flight Cancellations

The ongoing conflict between the US and Iran has severely impacted Nigerian Muslims planning to undertake the Umrah pilgrimage, resulting in substantial financial losses. Airlines, including Emirates, Etihad, and Qatar Airways, suspended flights across the Middle East due to heightened tensions following the US's military actions against Iran.

Many Nigerian pilgrims, who had already secured visas and made arrangements for their trips scheduled between March 4 and 6, are now unable to travel. Local government officials in Ilorin, Kwara State, reported that the cancellation of flights has led to losses amounting to millions of naira.

Each pilgrim had invested heavily in their trips, with costs for accommodations in Mecca and Medina reaching significant amounts. Travel agents are seeking refunds from airlines, but many have been denied, compounding the financial strain on those affected.

The situation has left many pilgrims frustrated and uncertain about their travel plans as their visas are set to expire on April 8.
