U.S. Military Expands Training for Nigerian Forces

The U.S. military has announced an expansion of its training support for Nigerian forces, aimed at reinforcing a long-standing partnership to enhance Nigeria's counterterrorism capabilities. A statement from the U.S. mission indicated that approximately 100 U.S. military personnel arrived in Nigeria to provide further training and technical assistance.

This initiative underscores the ongoing collaboration between the U.S. and Nigeria in the fight against terrorism. The training efforts are part of a decade-long military cooperation, primarily focused on building the operational readiness of Nigerian troops.

In 2018, U.S. troops trained 200 soldiers from the Nigerian army's 26th Infantry Battalion to respond to improvised explosive device ambush scenarios. The current training reflects a commitment to improving the operational planning and counterterrorism readiness of Nigerian forces.
