Dalung Critiques US Praise for Tinubu's Security Efforts

Former Minister and ADC chieftain Solomon Dalung criticized the United States for its recent praise of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's handling of security in Nigeria, arguing that such commendation does not reflect the ongoing realities of violence, killings, and kidnappings across the country. In an interview with Trust TV on Thursday, Dalung alleged that the positive remarks from the U.S. followed extensive lobbying by the Nigerian government, although he did not provide evidence for this claim.

He described the U.S. assessment as misleading, emphasizing that insecurity persists, particularly in northern Nigeria, where violence continues unabated. Dalung suggested that the U.S. is focused on broader geopolitical issues, which may have influenced its assessment of Nigeria's security situation.

He criticized the lack of tangible improvements in security despite foreign support, citing recent killings in Zamfara State. Dalung also expressed concern that Nigeria's political class is failing to adequately address insecurity ahead of the 2027 general elections, labeling the situation as a genocide against the poor.
