Trump Proposes $5,000 Dividend If Republicans Win Congress

At the Republican Party’s midterm convention in Dallas, President Donald Trump announced a proposal to issue a $5,000 payment to every adult citizen in the United States if Republicans maintain control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate in the upcoming midterm elections. Dubbed the “Trump dividend,” the payment would need to be spent within the U.S., although Trump did not specify how this would be enforced.

The proposal, which would require congressional approval, could cost around $1.2 trillion based on Census Bureau data indicating approximately 240 million adult citizens. Senator Bernie Moreno (R, Ohio) expressed support for the plan and indicated he would draft legislation to implement it post-election.

Vice President J.D. Vance suggested that the payments would exclude wealthy Americans and could be financed by tariff revenue.

Trump compared the dividend to previous stimulus checks issued during the COVID-19 pandemic and noted that past promises of similar payments had not been fulfilled, as highlighted by the Democratic National Committee.
