JD Vance in Pakistan for Iran Peace Negotiations

The talks are expected to take place in Islamabad and involve a significant Iranian delegation led by Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who had arrived earlier under tight security arrangements. Ghalibaf expressed skepticism regarding the negotiations, citing previous failed talks and broken promises by the US.

The US delegation reportedly includes senior officials Jared Kushner and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. Vance emphasized that the US is open to negotiating with Iran in good faith but warned against any attempts to delay or manipulate the process.

Iran's demands reportedly include a truce in Lebanon and the unfreezing of its assets as part of a broader agreement, while the US aims to ensure Iran does not develop nuclear weapons. The talks occur amid ongoing regional tensions, including hostilities involving Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, despite a fragile ceasefire agreement.
