Uzodimma, Wike Rivalry Escalates Ahead of 2027 Elections

The rivalry between Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma and Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has intensified as both politicians align their strategies for Bola Tinubu's anticipated 2027 presidential re-election bid. This political tension is rooted in their differing approaches to mobilizing support in the South East and South South regions.

Uzodimma reportedly supports Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara amid ongoing political crises, including an impeachment attempt involving 27 lawmakers loyal to Wike. The relationship between Uzodimma and Wike has soured further since Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State last year to restore political stability.

Wike has assured Tinubu of significant votes from the APC in Rivers, Cross River, Edo, and Bayelsa, while Uzodimma insists that the APC has a strong structure in place for victory without external political influence. Additionally, Uch Nnaji, a former Minister of Science and Technology, is reportedly considering returning to the PDP to contest the Enugu governorship election after losing in 2023.
