Venezuela Earthquake: 1,450 Dead, Rescue Efforts Ongoing

Following powerful twin earthquakes in Venezuela, the death toll has risen to 1,450, with tens of thousands still unaccounted for, according to Venezuelan National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez. The earthquakes have injured approximately 3,150 individuals and displaced 12,721 people.

Rodríguez emphasized the urgency of rescue operations, stating that critical hours for saving lives are passing. Interim President Delcy Rodríguez announced that search and rescue efforts would persist, noting that 33 individuals were found alive over the weekend.

Despite the critical 72-hour window for rescues having passed, international teams from the United States, France, and Colombia have successfully rescued individuals from the debris. Reports indicate that over 46,000 people are missing, with a dedicated website created to assist families in locating their loved ones.

The United Nations has mobilized 44 international urban search and rescue teams to aid in the efforts.
