Twin earthquakes struck Venezuela, resulting in a death toll of at least 589 and nearly 3,000 injuries. The earthquakes have left hundreds trapped beneath rubble, prompting urgent rescue efforts within a critical 72-hour "golden window" to save lives.

Diosdado Cabello, the acting president, announced the updated death toll, stating that many have not slept as they work to save lives. Delcy Rodríguez praised the arrival of international emergency assistance, including teams from the U.S.

Military, Mexico, Colombia, and Spain. The earthquakes have exacerbated Venezuela's ongoing humanitarian crisis, with nearly 8 million people needing support prior to the disaster.

The country ranks poorly in global transparency and has a history of poorly constructed buildings, contributing to the devastation. Rescuers face challenges, with reports indicating that no survivors have been found within 12 to 48 hours post-quake.

The situation is further complicated by the trauma experienced by survivors, such as Fernando Muñoz, who spent the night in a car after fearing to return home.
