The death toll from the twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela has risen to 2,954, according to official figures released on Saturday. This marks an increase of 300 fatalities since the previous report.

The earthquakes, which occurred on June 24, had magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 and caused significant destruction, leaving approximately 16,000 people injured and thousands homeless. The disaster primarily impacted the coastal La Guaira area, north of the capital, Caracas, where 190 buildings collapsed.

Rescue teams have begun to wrap up their search for survivors, as the critical window for finding individuals alive typically ends within 72 hours after such disasters. However, few people have been found alive a week after the earthquakes, as families continue to search for their loved ones among the rubble.
