Venezuela Earthquake Death Toll Reaches Nearly 3,000

The death toll from the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela has reached approximately 3,000, with official figures indicating that 2,954 fatalities occurred following the disaster on June 24. The earthquakes, measuring magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, primarily affected the coastal La Guaira area near Caracas, leaving thousands homeless and around 10,000 people missing.

As international rescue teams, including members from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, begin to conclude their operations, families are attempting to recover the bodies of their loved ones from the rubble. Interim President Delci Rodriguez defended the government's response, stating that thousands of troops and heavy machinery were dispatched to assist in the recovery efforts.

However, many Venezuelans expressed frustration over the slow governmental response. The situation remains dire, with 16,000 residents reported homeless and concerns about potential disease outbreaks among the survivors.
