Maduro Faces U.S. Court on Narco-Terrorism Charges

Nicolás Maduro, the 63-year-old president of Venezuela, made his second appearance in a New York court following his capture by U.S. forces during a nighttime raid on January 3. Maduro, along with his wife Cilia Flores, was held in a Brooklyn jail for nearly three months.

He faces four charges, including narco-terrorism and conspiracy related to cocaine importation and possession of destructive devices. The court hearing is scheduled for Thursday at 11:00 AM EST.

Maduro's lawyer, Barri Pollack, is seeking to dismiss the case, arguing that the U.S. license required for representation violates Maduro's constitutional rights. Maduro's detention conditions have been described as unsanitary, with limited communication access.

His vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, is grappling with the country's economic challenges, including the world's largest proven oil reserves. The U.S. has imposed sanctions on Venezuela, complicating the situation further.
