VFS Global Clarifies Visa Processing Role and Safeguards

VFS Global has clarified that it does not participate in the decision-making process regarding visa application approvals or rejections. During a media event at its Ikeja office, Chief Operating Officer for the Middle East and Africa, Siddharth Mehra, stated that VFS Global's responsibilities are limited to administrative tasks such as visa application intake, biometric collection, and document handling.

Sovereign governments maintain exclusive authority over visa assessments, approvals, refusals, appointment availability, and processing timelines. VFS Global operates under strict oversight for 71 client governments across over 160 countries, undergoing more than 10,000 audits and assessments annually.

Contracts with governments are awarded after a rigorous competitive tender process lasting 12 to 18 months, focusing on compliance standards, security systems, operational resilience, and financial strength. Mehra also addressed concerns regarding optional premium services at visa application centers, stating these services are designed to enhance convenience and are developed in consultation with client governments.
