The Nigerian international has a history of knee injuries, having undergone two ACL surgeries in the past. As a result, AC Milan is now considering alternative targets, including Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson.

Boniface's fitness issues have also led to Roma rejecting a swap proposal involving him in the past. The club is now likely to return Boniface to Bayer Leverkusen.
