Bamidele Praises Ekiti Election Turnout, Rules Out Act Changes

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele expressed satisfaction with the voter turnout during the Ekiti State governorship election, highlighting it as a significant milestone in Nigeria's democratic journey. He reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) effectively managed the logistics and ensured the timely arrival of electoral materials.

Bamidele noted that the conduct of the election reflected the growing maturity of Nigeria's electoral system, with higher compliance among political parties and voters regarding electoral regulations. He indicated that there was strong voter enthusiasm, with expectations of over 500,000 votes, and emphasized the importance of a comprehensive assessment of the electoral process.

Bamidele also disclosed that the National Assembly resolved not to introduce further amendments to the Electoral Act before the 2027 general elections, aiming to maintain stability and avoid altering electoral rules close to major elections. He stressed the need for future reforms based on lessons learned from this election.
