Father Blames Faith for Daughter's Sickle Cell Struggles

A Nigerian father recounted the struggles of his daughter battling sickle cell disease, which he attributed to what he called a "foolish mistake" stemming from his religious beliefs. In a viral video, he showed his daughter in pain, lying under a bedsheet and crying about her leg discomfort.

He expressed that witnessing her crisis firsthand made him realize the severity of their situation, which he had previously only observed through videos during hospital visits. The father acknowledged that both he and his wife were aware of their AS genotype status before marriage but believed their faith would prevent them from having a sickle cell child.

He stated that they dated for three years without physical intimacy due to their religious convictions. Despite knowing the risks, he prayed and fasted, believing that God would intervene.

He now recognizes this belief as "foolishness" and emphasized the need for couples to heed scientific and biological realities in their decisions regarding marriage and childbirth.
