US Humanitarian Worker Urges Nigerians to Self-Defend

Alex Barbir, a US humanitarian worker, addressed concerns regarding security in Nigeria during an interview with TVC News on Tuesday. He urged Nigerians to take measures to protect themselves if the government fails to ensure their safety.

Barbir emphasized the importance of self-defense when faced with imminent threats, rejecting accusations that he incited violence or that his presence in Plateau State contributed to rising tensions. He clarified that violence in the region has been ongoing and not a result of his visit.

Barbir also dismissed reports of a recent attack that left two people dead, stating that the incidents occurred after his arrival, contradicting the narrative that linked him to the violence. He highlighted that violence affects both Christians and Muslims in Nigeria and maintained that his advocacy is not politically motivated.

Despite facing criticism, Barbir plans to return to Nigeria to continue his humanitarian efforts, particularly in Benue and Plateau States, focusing on community support and peacebuilding initiatives.
