Tinubu Advocates for Stronger UK-Nigeria Economic Ties

On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria urged for deeper economic and security cooperation with the United Kingdom during a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street in London. Tinubu emphasized the importance of strengthening trade relations and collaborating to address global challenges.

He noted that Nigeria is implementing economic reforms aimed at stabilizing the economy and improving citizen welfare, despite facing global volatility. Tinubu acknowledged that Nigeria is not immune to the economic challenges affecting even advanced economies and stressed the need to prioritize citizen welfare.

He also highlighted security concerns across Africa, particularly terrorism linked to instability in the Sahel region and the impacts of climate change. Tinubu expressed hope for further bilateral discussions to enhance the friendship and partnership between Nigeria and the UK.
