Wole Soyinka Honors Biodun Jeyifo at Farewell Ceremony

Wole Soyinka, a Nobel laureate, led members of the Pyrates Confraternity in paying their last respects to the late Biodun Jeyifo, an emeritus professor of African literature, during a farewell ceremony held in Ibadan on Wednesday. In a video shared on social media, Soyinka reflected on Jeyifo's academic brilliance, recalling their time together at the University of Ibadan.

He noted that Jeyifo graduated with a first-class degree in English literature, distinguishing himself in a minor subject. Soyinka recounted a memorable incident involving a letter Jeyifo carried to America, which was part of their shared experiences.

The ceremony celebrated Jeyifo's life and legacy, highlighting his significant contributions to African literature and scholarship.
