Iran's World Cup Participation Uncertain Due to Visa Delays

Iran's participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup is in jeopardy as the Iran Football Federation has confirmed that players and staff are still awaiting visa approvals less than a month before the tournament begins. The tournament will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Federation President Mehdi Taj stated that the matter remains unresolved, and urgent talks will be held with FIFA to secure guarantees for the team's participation. No official communication regarding visa approvals has been confirmed for the Iranian delegation, which is scheduled to play in group stage matches in the United States, including fixtures in Los Angeles and Seattle, while being based in Tucson, Arizona.

Despite the uncertainty, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has insisted that Iran will be part of the competition, but Iranian football authorities are demanding formal assurances from FIFA regarding visa approvals. The situation has become a significant off-field concern as Iran continues to push for diplomatic resolutions to avoid disruptions to its World Cup campaign.
