World Bank's HOPE Programme Tackles Education, Health Gaps

The World Bank-backed HOPE Governance Programme is partnering with state governments in Nigeria to address manpower shortages in basic education and primary healthcare. Dr.

Assad Hassan disclosed that the initiative aims to improve the recruitment and equitable deployment of teachers and healthcare workers, particularly in hard-to-reach areas. The programme is designed to complement existing federal and state efforts to enhance service delivery in these sectors.

It includes a $500 million intervention program linked to results-based disbursements, rewarding states for achieving specific targets. The programme promotes accountability and ensures public resources are effectively utilized to benefit citizens.

During an implementation support mission in Gombe State, which is committed to reducing the number of out-of-school children by 50% by 2030, participants from Plateau and Jigawa States also engaged in peer learning to share experiences and strategies for successful implementation.
