World Athletics Sets Qualification Standards for 2027 Champs

World Athletics announced the qualification standards for the 2027 World Championships, set to take place from September 11 to 19, 2027, at the National Stadium in Beijing, China. The qualification marks were released ahead of the global championship, reflecting an increase in competitive expectations.

Athletes will have the opportunity to qualify through two systems: achieving entry standards or through world rankings. The qualification window for the marathon will run from November 3, 2025, to May 2, 2027.

Specific entry standards include male athletes needing to clock 9.95 seconds for the 100m and 20.07 seconds for the 200m, while female athletes must achieve 10.96 seconds and 22.45 seconds, respectively. The men's marathon qualification standard is set at 2:06:00, and for women, it is 2:23:20.

The standards aim for approximately 40% of athletes to qualify via entry standards and 60% through world rankings.
