Okonjo-Iweala Celebrated by Community in Delta State

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), visited her home community in Delta State, where she was celebrated for her significant contributions and achievements as the first African and first woman to lead the WTO. During the visit, community members expressed their appreciation through traditional songs and dances, creating an atmosphere filled with excitement.

Okonjo-Iweala, dressed in a simple outfit and notably without her signature scarf, joined in the festivities, smiling with joy as she embraced the moment. The women of the community performed a series of songs, proudly chanting, “na our mama be this o.” Following the performances, the community honored Okonjo-Iweala with special tributes, recognizing her dedication and the pride she has brought to them on the global stage.

This visit occurred shortly after the 2026 Delta State Investment Summit.
