Water Resources Ministry Prioritizes Dams and Hydropower

During a budget defense session, Engr. Prof.

Joseph Terlumun Utsev, the Minister of Water Resources, affirmed the ministry's dedication to the development of dams and hydropower in Nigeria. He discussed the ministry's budget for the fiscal year 2025, which totals N146.78 billion, with N142.22 billion earmarked for capital expenditure.

The minister noted that the capital warrant release is pending cash backing. He assured the committee of ongoing procurement processes for projects that are at advanced stages to ensure prompt implementation.

The ministry's initiatives are aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's agenda to enhance water supply, sanitation, irrigation, and food security while mitigating drought. The committee chair, Mukthar Chawai, indicated that the committee would adopt the ministry's 2025 budget implementation report and further consider the 2026 budget proposal, which aims to resolve issues related to dam and irrigation projects nationwide.
