Atiku Critiques Tinubu Over Rising Poverty Rates in Nigeria

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, has condemned President Bola Tinubu in light of a World Bank report stating that 60% of Nigerians are living below the poverty line, a significant increase from 40% just a few years ago. In a statement released on Friday in Abuja by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku described the current economic crisis as a direct outcome of poorly conceived and harshly implemented policies, including the abrupt removal of fuel subsidies and chaotic naira devaluation.

He emphasized that the Nigerian populace is facing daily struggles for survival, with food prices spiraling and small businesses collapsing. Atiku criticized the Tinubu administration for its disconnect from the realities faced by citizens and called for a more careful and transparent approach to economic reforms that prioritize job creation and food security.

He asserted that Nigeria cannot continue on a path that deepens poverty while the government celebrates ineffective policies.
