Gumi Criticizes FG's Terrorist Label on Bandits

Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a controversial Islamic cleric, expressed strong criticism of the Nigerian Government's decision to classify armed bandits as terrorists. He stated that this classification effectively shuts down any possibility for dialogue with these groups.

Gumi, who has previously engaged in peace efforts by visiting bandit hideouts, emphasized that the government's approach has not improved the security situation but rather escalated violence across the region. He pointed out that armed groups had previously shown a willingness to engage in dialogue, and he questioned the rationale behind the terrorist designation.

Gumi argued that the government should not rush to label bandits as terrorists, as this could push the situation further into chaos. He highlighted that the armed groups are open to negotiation, and he urged the government to reconsider its stance to avoid worsening the already dire security conditions in Northwest Nigeria.
