Gumi: Nigeria Can Combat Terrorism Without U.S. Aid

Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a controversial Islamic cleric, has stated that Nigeria can effectively defeat terrorists without military assistance from the United States. He cautioned against foreign military involvement, arguing that it could worsen the already fragile security situation in Nigeria.

Gumi emphasized the importance of maintaining national sovereignty and warned that external military partnerships could lead to unintended consequences, including increased violence and the attraction of international terrorist networks. He criticized the ongoing amnesty initiatives as misleading and detrimental to the military's capacity to confront insurgents like Boko Haram, which has persisted for nearly 17 years.

Gumi supports a non-kinetic approach to insecurity, advocating for dialogue with armed groups rather than relying solely on military force, which he believes will not lead to lasting peace. He highlighted the need for justice and accountability within security operations to prevent further resentment and prolongation of conflict.
