Rep. Reveals Terrorist Threats to National Assembly, Calls for Enhanced Security Measures

Rep. Garba Ibrahim Muhammad disclosed terrorist threats targeting the National Assembly, urging enhanced internal security measures during a public hearing in Abuja.

He highlighted the vulnerability of the parliament to criminal elements exploiting security gaps. Muhammad proposed a bill to establish a Legislative Security Director to ensure the safety of legislators, staff, and property.

The bill aims to align with global parliamentary security standards to protect against insecurity within the complex, citing incidents of theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access. The Nigerian Police and NSCDC expressed reservations about creating a separate security director role to prevent functional overlaps.
