Nigerian Women Rescued from Trafficking in Mali

Becki Ibrahim, a 35-year-old widow and mother of three, along with Bless Nang and Miracl Yakubu, shared their traumatic experiences of being trafficked from Plateau State to Mali under the guise of legitimate employment. Ibrahim was approached by a man who promised her a job in Lagos to support her children.

Upon arrival in Mali, she was forced into prostitution and beaten for refusing to comply. Bless Nang believed she was going to work in a shop but was similarly coerced into prostitution.

Miracl Yakubu, 23, suffered severe abuse and attempted to escape, facing violent retaliation. The women urged others to be cautious of overseas job offers.

Michael, a representative from the Global Anti-Human Trafficking Organization, expressed concern over labor exploitation involving Nigerians in Egypt, where victims often have their passports confiscated and are subjected to harsh working conditions. The women were assisted by the Birom Association Community to return to Nigeria after their rescue.
