‘We Were Sexually Abused By Chinese Employers’ – Rescued Nigerian Miners Recount Ordeal

A group of Nigerian miners, rescued from a remote village in the Central African Republic, have reported being sexually abused by their Chinese employers. The Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) played a crucial role in facilitating their evacuation and return to Abuja.

The miners, who had been stranded in CAR, recounted their harrowing ordeal of living in harsh and unsafe conditions in the forest after being abandoned by their recruiters without pay for 11 months. One of the rescued miners, Igorigo Freeborn, called on the federal government to address the injustice they suffered at the hands of their employers.

NiDCOM assured the miners that justice would be served and that they would receive support to resettle and receive their pending salaries. The commission also emphasized the dangers of irregular migration and provided the miners with cash support.
