Chinese Embassy Promises to Probe Allegations of Abuse of 12 Nigerian Workers in Central African Republic

The Chinese Embassy in Nigeria has promised to investigate allegations of abuse made by 12 Nigerian workers who were recently rescued in the Central African Republic (CAR). The workers accused their Chinese employer of sexual abuse and withholding their salaries for 11 months.

The embassy stated that the allegations would be taken seriously and due process would be followed. They emphasized that the Chinese Government requires its citizens abroad to comply with the laws and regulations of the host country.

The Nigerian workers, who arrived in the country last week, recounted their harrowing experiences of abuse and starvation wages at the hands of their Chinese mining employer in CAR. The leader of the rescued workers, Igorigo Freeborn, expressed gratitude for the help received and pledged to pursue justice.

The Nigerian government's Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has also pledged to support the workers in seeking justice. The embassy reiterated that the outcome of the investigation would guide their actions in response to the allegations.
