Africa's Digital Revolution Hindered by Weak Leadership

During a keynote session at the Lagos Tech Revolution Africa 2.0 conference, Emma Okonji, Chief Information Officer of MTN Nigeria, and Shoyinka Shodunk emphasized that Africa's weak leadership and legacy mindsets hinder the continent's ability to lead in the ongoing fourth digital revolution. Shodunk highlighted that despite Africa's large, tech-savvy youth population, the continent struggles to overcome historical challenges, having missed opportunities during the first three industrial revolutions.

He noted that the fourth digital revolution is characterized by data, cloud computing, and talent rather than heavy capital investment. Shodunk identified weak leadership as the biggest challenge facing Africa's digital future, urging for bold leadership to disrupt legacy products and mindsets.

He encouraged African youth to innovate and take decisive action to ensure the continent does not lag behind again, stressing the importance of setting trends in the digital era.
