INEC to Review Court Judgment on NDC Registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that it will review a judgment from the Federal High Court in Lokoja, which overturned a previous ruling that recognized the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). Victoria Eta Messi, INEC's Director of Voter Education and Publicity, stated that the commission has not yet received the certified true copy of the court's order and will study it before taking any action.

The judgment, issued on June 26, 2026, annulled an earlier order regarding the registration of the NDC. INEC has indicated that once its legal department examines the court's ruling, it will respond according to the law.

The ruling was made by Judge Isah Dashen, who noted that the application from the Peace Movement Party (PMP) demonstrated sufficient interest in the case. The court mandated that the substantive suit be reinitiated, involving INEC, PMP, and NDC by February 5, 2026.
