NDC Rejects Court Ruling on INEC Registration, Plans Appeal

The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced its intention to appeal a recent ruling by the Federal High Court in Lokoja, which set aside an earlier judgment that directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the party. NDC Chairman Senator Mose Cleopa disclosed this decision in a statement posted on the party's official Facebook page, expressing surprise at Justice Isah Dashen's ruling.

The court's decision, made on December 10, 2025, was claimed to adversely affect the rights of the Peace Movement party, which argued it was neither registered nor part of the current registration process. The NDC's legal team has been instructed to proceed with an appeal, challenging the jurisdiction and propriety of the court's order.

Cleopa assured that the party's candidates remain unaffected by the ruling and emphasized the importance of allowing diverse political voices in Nigeria, particularly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
