Wema Bank Enters Trading Blackout for Q3 2026 Results Release

Wema Bank has activated a closed period from October 1, blocking insiders from trading shares until 24 hours after Q3 results publication.

Wema Bank Plc has put a trading restriction in place beginning October 1, 2026, barring insiders and their connected parties from purchasing or disposing of shares in the bank. This measure aligns with NGX Rule 17.17–17.18, which sets governance standards for closed periods surrounding financial announcements, and has been submitted to the Nigerian Exchange Limited.

The blackout will continue for a full 24 hours following publication of the bank's unaudited third-quarter financial statements (ending September 30, 2026). No target date for when results will be made available was provided in the filing.

The restriction covers all institution insiders and any persons with direct ties to them. Closing off trading is customary practice among Nigerian firms listed on exchanges as they prepare quarterly earnings announcements.

Identical blackout periods commencing October 1 have been declared by International Breweries Plc, UPDC Plc, HBM Nigeria Plc, and Berger Paints Nigeria Plc, with most convening board meetings in the final weeks of October to examine their third-quarter financial statements. UPDC said its results would be available by October 30 at the latest, while Wema Bank did not specify any release schedule.

These trading bans serve to forestall transactions grounded in material information not yet in the public domain during the crucial period when financial results undergo finalization. After Wema Bank issues its statements via the NGX Issuer's Portal and distributes them publicly, the restriction expires following a 24-hour interval, enabling insiders to resume ordinary equity dealings.
