WFP Seeks $450 Million to Aid Gaza Amid Food Crisis

The World Food Programme (WFP) has issued a warning regarding critical funding shortages for its aid operations in Gaza, where 1.4 million people are experiencing crisis-level food insecurity, including 200,000 in emergency conditions. Due to the funding shortfall, the number of individuals receiving monthly food assistance has decreased from 1.6 million to 1.1 million.
Food rations have been halved, cash assistance has been cut for 75,000 families, and the provision of daily hot meals has been reduced from 250,000 to 150,000 for those unable to cook. Some families in hard-to-reach areas are receiving hot meals only every other day.
Carl Skau, the acting Executive Director of the WFP, described the dire living conditions in Gaza, despite a ceasefire agreement. The WFP urgently requires $450 million over the next six months to maintain critical operations in Gaza and the Israeli-occupied West Bank, calling for continued international support to address the humanitarian crisis.
