Oyo State Kidnapping: 39 Pupils and 7 Teachers Rescued

On July 10, 39 pupils and seven teachers were abducted from a school in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. After 56 days of uncertainty, they were finally rescued.

The operation involved the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Police Force, which worked together to track the abductors and neutralize at least nine kidnappers, arresting eight others. The operation was marked by public anxiety and pressure for immediate action, reflecting the challenges faced by security agencies.

The Minister of Defence, General Christoph Musa (rtd), was involved in the high-level federal delegation to Ogbomoso, emphasizing the commitment to deploying every available resource for the safe return of the hostages. The situation underscored the brutal nature of kidnappings in Nigeria, as exemplified by the murder of teacher Michael Oyedokun.
